The Surveillance Samples Managament System (SSSMS) solely deals with the Surveillance Samples which are drawn for purposes of surveillance, survey and research, and cannot be used for prosecution. This may be an ongoing process and is normally initiated by the Food Authority. The policy, plan and programme all may be formulated by the Food Authority and normally forwarded to the State Authorities for drawing samples as per the guidelines enumerated in the plan.
The surveillance sampling may also be done by the Central Authorities or jointly by the
Central and State Authorities. This type of samping is done to monitor the safety and quality of
food manufactured, sold or imported in the country.
